Our Story

Established in the 1930’s, the Quarterdeck is one of Nova Scotia’s hidden treasures. Perched on spectacular Summerville Beach, a mile of pristine white sand; the Quarterdeck has been a popular travel destination for more than 85 years.  Centrally located on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, the Quarterdeck is just 1.5 hours from Halifax, Yarmouth and Annapolis Royal.

For nearly a century, the Quarterdeck has been evolving. From its origins as a roadside canteen serving hot dogs, to earning the reputation as the South Shore’s foremost destination for authentic maritime hospitality and fresh, inspired Nova Scotian cuisine. As a Taste of Nova Scotia member, our brand-new restaurant is focused on serving up local flavours with an eye on sustainability and ethics.

The property consists of spacious Villas, cozy Suites and a three-bedroom Cottage that are all just a few steps from the beach. The newest addition to the Quarterdeck experience is the Beach Lofts. Designed by the renowned Nicholas Fudge Architects, this much-anticipated addition consists of 12 units perched on the hillside, all with stunning views overlooking the ocean and Summerville Beach Provincial Park. Whether you choose to unwind in the modern luxury of the all-new Quarterdeck Beach Lofts, or escape with someone you love to the beachside Villas, perfectly stunning views are guaranteed.

A new recreation complex houses a small indoor pool, fitness centre, sauna, eighteen seat theatre, lounging room with games and an outdoor swim spa/lap pool which is available to Quarterdeck guests year-round.
